Job Description: Volunteer Coordinator (Hybrid Position)

Job Overview

As the Volunteer Coordinator, you will play a crucial role in the recruitment, onboarding, and management of our volunteers. In this hybrid position, you will be responsible for engaging and supporting volunteers in both in-person and virtual settings. Your primary goal will be to ensure a positive and meaningful experience for all volunteers while maximizing their impact on our organization's mission.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement recruitment strategies to attract a diverse pool of volunteers, including posting on volunteer websites, attending community events, and collaborating with local organizations.
  • Screen and interview prospective volunteers, ensuring they are applicable to their desired roles and aligned with our organization's mission and values.
  • Coordinate volunteer orientation and training sessions, providing essential information on our organization, expectations, and safety protocols.
  • Create and maintain a comprehensive volunteer database, tracking volunteer contact information, skillsets, availability, and preferences.
  • Schedule and assign volunteer tasks and projects, ensuring optimal use of resources and an equitable distribution of workload.
  • Foster a positive and inclusive volunteer environment, both in-person and virtually, by providing ongoing support, guidance, and recognition.
  • Evaluate volunteer performance, offering constructive feedback and identifying opportunities for growth and development.
  • Collaborate with team members to identify and address volunteer needs and ensure that volunteers are effectively integrated into our organization.
  • Maintain open lines of communication with volunteers, addressing any concerns, answering questions, and providing updates on organizational initiatives.
  • Develop and implement volunteer retention strategies, including appreciation events and opportunities for advancement.


  • Experience in volunteer coordination position or a similar role.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with diverse populations.
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills, with a keen attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, demonstrating adaptability and flexibility.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, as well as experience with volunteer management software.
  • Passion for technology is an asset.
  • Passion for environmental sustainability and commitment to the mission of Power Up The Planet.
