Sustainable Shopping: The Best Places to Secondhand Shop in Edmonton

By Heather Gunn

When we need new clothes or home decor, it’s easy to head over to the nearest mall and shop at chain stores like Old Navy or H&M. But ‘fast fashion’ as it’s called isn’t always the most sustainable way to shop.

Next time you’re looking for some cool new home items or need a wardrobe refresh, try shopping at secondhand, thrift, or vintage stores!

These are some of our favourite secondhand shops in Edmonton:

Caprice Consignment

This West Edmonton consignment boutique features women’s wear, accessories, and shoes. Being a consignment store, they buy your gently used designer items for a certain price, and women shop the items for lower than retail prices. Consignment is a great way to find unique pieces and not have to pay brand-new prices.

With several locations and a great reputation as a secondhand retailer, Goodwill should be first on your list when it comes to thrift shops. They offer a huge selection of women’s, men’s, and kids clothing and accessories, as well as home wares and other miscellaneous finds. Goodwill is also an awesome organization to donate your old/gently used items to.

  1. You should also try Plato’s Closet! They are a consignment store – I love to go in hoping to sell a bag of 20 items, and then I can shop around while they evaluate my stuff. They keep things very on trend, clean, and are an incredibly organized store. Plus, they carry a full range of sizes! They don’t stop at SML, they go with the flow. I’ve seen all the way to 4X in there, and the people are very supportive.
