Announcing Our New Recycling Partner: GEEP

By Heather Gunn

Power up the Planet is committed to reducing electronic waste in our community. Electronics ending up in landfills is dangerous and harmful, which is why our goal is to reuse or recycle as much electronic waste as we can.

When your old electronics come to our office, we refurbish/salvage as much as we can with the aim of donating the refurbished electronics to other non-profits and charities in and around Edmonton.

Sometimes, not everything can be refurbished if it is too broken or too old. When this happens, we make sure the electronics are properly and locally recycled.

How do we do this? By partnering with an amazing recycling partner. We are so happy to announce that we are now partnered with GEEP, an internationally recognized recycling company.

GEEP strives to be as sustainable and environmentally friendly as possible, and they have a local office here in Edmonton. They also ensure that no electronic waste is shipped overseas where it often ends up being improperly thrown away to sit in landfills.

GEEP takes security and data management seriously. They ensure that all data is kept secure, and that it’s destroyed before any material is taken apart or recycled.
